MEET YOUR HOST
I’ve been cutting trailers for over 20 years, running The Solid State for nearly two decades, and along the way I've built campaigns that have won over 50 international awards and helped films travel the world.
However, what I'm most proud of is collaborating with filmmakers I respect, shaping their stories into trailers that get investors, distributors, and audiences to pay attention.
I do this because I believe all art, especially film, is a bridge to a deeper understanding of the world. And this is what I teach inside the course.

FAQS
Still Got Questions?
What is Movie Trailer Academy?
It’s a training program that teaches you how to cut effective, professional trailers that help films get attention, distribution interest, and audience engagement. You learn the same frameworks pro houses use, not just random tips.
Who is this for?
Filmmakers ready to cut their first film trailer and make a compelling marketing asset. Editors with basic skills who want to step into one of the most challenging and rewarding fields in post-production. Both get the same craft- and strategy-based guidance.
Do I need previous editing experience?
You don’t need trailer experience. You do need a solid foundation in an NLE (Premiere, DaVinci, FCP, Avid). The program focuses on how to think like a trailer editor, not how to use buttons.
Do I need a finished film?
For filmmakers, you get the most value if you have footage you’re ready to use. Editors can work with any feature film they can get their hands on for the purposes of exercising their skills.
What’s included?
Practical modules from concept to polish Frameworks like three-act structure, audience hooks, music and sound templates Live sessions and direct feedback A private community to share work and critique
How is this different from free tutorials or YouTube?
Free tutorials show moves. We teach why trailers work: story architecture, psychological hooks, marketing intent and agency-ready outcomes. You’re building industry-relevant skill, not random tricks.
Is there live support or feedback?
Yes, in cohort versions you get live calls with feedback and Q&A. There’s also recorded content and discussion feedback in self-paced options.
What outcomes can I expect?
You move from guesswork to a clear trailer process. Filmmakers finish with a trailer ready for festivals and buyers. Editors get a toolbox that positions you for real trailer projects and higher-value work.
How much time should I plan to spend?
Plan regular weekly time to watch lessons, do exercises, and refine your trailer. This is applied learning, not passive watching.
What if this isn’t right for me?
If you just want quick tips, templates, or aren’t willing to apply frameworks to actual edits, this program won’t help you. This is for people who want serious trailer craft and real progress.
